City of Huron Fire Department Announces Officer Promotions
The City of Huron is proud to announce the promotions of two dedicated members of the Huron Fire Department, recognizing their professional accomplishments, leadership abilities, and continued commitment to serving the community.
Due to the recent retirement within the department, the Huron Fire Department conducted a thorough promotional process to fill vacancies in the rank of Captain and Lieutenant.
The competitive process for interested and eligible fire fighters included both a written and oral exam administered by the Ohio Fire Chiefs. Based on the results of this rigorous process, the following members achieved the top scores and have earned promotion: Lt. Dan Soisson has been promoted to the rank of Captain, while FF Kevin Bower has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Both promotions reflect the City’s commitment to developing strong leaders from within its ranks and maintaining the highest standards of emergency service.
Throughout their careers, both firefighters have demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and dedication essential to protecting the lives and property of Huron residents. Their advancement represents not only individual achievement but also the confidence placed in them to lead fellow firefighters, mentor the next generation of emergency responders, and help guide the department into the future.
“Leadership in the fire service is earned through dedication, experience, and the trust of those who serve alongside you,” said Fire Chief Kevin McGraw. “These individuals have consistently demonstrated those qualities, and we are proud to recognize their accomplishments as they take on greater responsibilities within our department.”
In their new roles, Captain Soisson and Lieutenant Bower will assume expanded responsibilities in emergency operations, personnel supervision, training, and maintaining the department’s operational readiness.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve Huron in my new capacity of Captain. I will continue to do my best to uphold the traditions and reputation of the Huron Fire Department,” stated Captain Dan Soisson.
Echoing Captain Soisson’s sentiments, Lieutenant Bower shared “I’m excited for this next chapter in my career and truly grateful for the opportunity to take on this new role. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some great firefighters over the years, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community while growing as a leader. I’m excited about the challenges ahead and the opportunity to help our department continue to move forward.”
The City of Huron congratulates both firefighters on these well-earned promotions after a very competitive process and thanks them for their continued dedication to the City, their community and their fellow FF’s, stated City Manager, Stu Hamilton. Their new titles represent more than advancement in rank. They represent an enduring commitment to lead by example, serve with integrity, and uphold the trust of the Huron community.
Both Captain Soisson and Lieutenant Bower were officially sworn in on Tuesday October 13th, 2026, during the Huron City Council Meeting.
