Huron's Municipal Electric Supplier for Commercial Customers!

Huron Public Power SubstationWhat is Huron Public Power?

Huron Public Power is a municipal electric utility committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to our community. Guided by the principles of local accountability and environmental responsibility, we are building an energy future that works for everyone.

For decades, the City of Huron has worked to create a strong foundation for economic development. With the launch of Huron Public Power (HPP), the City is taking the next step toward energy independence and economic resilience.

HPP is community-owned and not for profit, meaning revenues stay right here in Huron, helping to fund local improvements, infrastructure, and services that directly benefit residents and businesses.

Businesses are the lifeblood of our community, and dependable, cost-effective power is essential to their success. Through HPP businesses will enjoy:

  • Competitive and stable rates -Local control helps keep rates fair and predictable, without shareholder mark-up.
  • Reliable Service – our locally managed infrastructure allows for faster response times and enhanced reliability.
  • Sustainability Options – Access to renewable energy programs and efficiency incentives to help meet sustainability goals.
  • Local Decision-Making – Policies and investments are shaped by community priorities – not distant corporate brands.

Investing in Huron’s Future:
Every dollar spent on HPP stays within the City of Huron.  Revenues are reinvested in maintaining the electrical grid, improving energy efficiency, and supporting initiatives that promote business growth and innovation. By choosing local service, businesses help create local jobs, support local contractors, and strengthen the city’s economic foundation.

Huron Public Power Substation:
HPP began as a two 25-mva transformer station servicing the Huron Corporate Park and areas south of the tracks. Due to these railroad tracks, HPP’s distribution area had been restricted to this area only.

In the beginning of 2025, expansion efforts began to increase electric distribution and supply services to a greater area. Phase one of this project expanded services northward down Rye Beach Road, under the tracks to the western edge of Sawmill Parkway. Completion of this project opened the possibility for more businesses to tap into HPP’s economical and reliable service.

Huron Public Power recently added a third transformer in 2025/2026. This third transformer brings a level of energy redundancy and security that HPP did not previously have. It serves not only as a back-up should a transformer go off-line through failure or service needs but enables new customers to benefit from an affordable and reliable power source.

Huron Public Power Rate Information:
HPP Rates are held to an absolute minimum to cover costs associated with offering the utility within the current footprint as well as a small reserve. HPP continually reviews our rates to ensure the lowest rates possible are passed along to our customers. We do not markup the cost of electric but pass our cost on to our customers. HPP charges a distribution charge (listed below), a meter charge and a small capital rider.
