City Welcomes New Zoning Inspector
For many residents and businesses, the Zoning Inspector is often one of the first points of contact when considering a new project, whether it’s building an addition, installing a fence or shed, adding signage, opening or expanding a business, or planning a larger development. For Huron, Michael DelGrosso is that guy! The City of Huron is pleased to introduce Mike as the newest member of the team and the City’s new Zoning Inspector.
In his new role, Mike is excited to work with residents, property owners, businesses, contractors and developers to help guide projects through the City’s zoning requirements. Mike’s primary responsibilities will include reviewing zoning permit applications, answering questions about property use and development, conducting site inspections and helping ensure projects are consistent with Huron’s zoning regulations and community development goals.
With a technical project management, design, and engineering background, Mike brings years of experience to the position. For several years, he and his wife, Carol, ran a business producing animation, video, product, and architectural design.
Beyond administering the zoning code, the position plays an important role in helping balance new investment and development with the character of Huron’s neighborhoods and business districts. In addition, Mike will work closely with other City departments on planning, development, building and property-related matters.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the community and helping residents and businesses navigate the zoning process,” stated Mike. “I’m excited to be part of Huron and to contribute to the community’s continued growth and development.”
“The Planning & Zoning Department’s goal is to make the zoning related processes, permitting, and reporting clear and easy to navigate through both online and in-person options. Staff are available and welcome the opportunity to assist the public with general inquiries, residential and commercial permitting processes, and to provide code enforcement services. The approachability of staff to research and meet with the public is an important part of providing good customer service,” stated Christine Gibboney, Planning and Zoning Manager. “As the Zoning Inspector, Mike, will work directly with residents and businesses prior to conducting plan reviews, permit issuance and zoning inspections on improvement projects, and by providing inspections, reporting, and enforcement of various zoning code violations.”
Mike stated that he loves working with people, believes in the government and process, and feels his new role is a great way to become acclimated to Huron. Mike’s short-term goals are to learn the systems and methodology of the local government structure, meet members of the Huron community, and to help find solutions for any situation brought before the Zoning Inspector.
Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Mike attended Ohio State University where he met his wife of 43 years. Together they recently relocated from the Columbus area to primarily be closer to their family. As a former triathlete, Mike loves the outdoors with hiking, biking, and conservation being of top interest. “When my feet are parallel to the earth, I have another day to improve”, are words Mike lives by. Future travels around America by bike and by car are something he and his wife look forward to doing.
The City encourages residents and property owners who are considering a project to reach out before work begins. An early conversation with Mike and the Zoning Department can help determine whether a zoning permit or other approval is required and can often make the process easier from the start.
Please join us in welcoming Mike DelGrosso to the City of Huron team!
