City of Huron Named Finalist for Award - Recognizing Excellence in Budgeting and Financial Reporting
The City of Huron is pleased to announce they have been named a finalist for a prestigious award recognizing excellence in public budgeting and financial reporting. OpenGov’s High-Performance Government Awards celebrate the most forward-thinking cities, counties, special districts, and state agencies.
OpenGov’s is a modern technology company that provides cloud-based software solutions to help governments improve transparency, budgeting, and performance management.
In a statement from OpenGov, Huron’s nomination stands out for its measurable impact, innovation, and commitment to serving the Huron community at the highest level. The recognition highlights the organization’s commitment to transparency, responsible financial management, and clear communication with residents about how public funds are planned and used.
The “finalist” designation reflects the work of staff and leadership who have focused on strengthening financial planning processes, improving the clarity of budget documents, and expanding the availability of financial information to the public. These efforts help ensure that residents, businesses, and community partners can better understand how resources are allocated to support services, infrastructure, and community priorities.
“The City has made great strides to promote financial transparency and encourage community engagement with the helpful tools provided by OpenGov. The City’s published financial reports and budgets using the OpenGov platform allow for easy access for the public which is imperative in building a dialogue to understand the issues that matter most to our residents and local businesses,” explained Isaac Phillips, Finance Director for the City of Huron.
Over the past several years, the City of Huron has implemented several improvements to its budgeting and reporting practices. These include more detailed financial reporting, enhanced long-term planning tools, and clearer explanations of major projects and spending priorities. The goal has been to make financial information easier to access and understand while maintaining strong fiscal oversight.
Being selected as a finalist places Huron amongst a small group of governments recognized for advancing best practices in public finance. Award recipients will be announced late April during the OpenGov conference in Chicago.
City Manager, Stu Hamilton, expressed appreciation for the staff members who contribute to the budgeting and reporting process throughout the year. “The finance department’s dedication helps ensure that public resources are managed carefully and that residents have confidence in the community’s financial stewardship.”
