Huron Police Department Replaces Two Cruisers
The Huron Police Department is pleased to announce the arrival of their two replacement patrol cruisers, enhancing the department’s ability to serve and protect residents.
The new vehicles, Ford Interceptor SUV’s, will replace two older Dodge Chargers and provide officers with updated safety features, improved reliability, and increased efficiency.
The purchase of the new vehicles follows the Capital Equipment Replacement schedule, was budgeted for in 2025, and approved by City Council during the January 24, 2025, meeting. The $140,316.00 acquisition was made possible through the Police Capital Equipment Fund. A three-year lease-purchase with Statewide Emergency Products, LLC, was the most economical route for the City this time around. The department has worked with Statewide as they are a single-source supplier specializing in law enforcement vehicles and outfitting them with the appropriate decals and equipment needs.
The department made the decision to begin changing the color of their fleet from silver to black. The decision was made based on the availability and ease of locating the right vehicle at the right price.
The replaced vehicles will enter a second phase of their useful life with one motoring to the Water Filtration Plant for low-milage use and the other travelling to EHOVE’s Auto Department for fine tuning before stopping in their Public Safety Department.
The two new cruisers will be immediately placed into service, supporting routine patrols, emergency response, and community policing efforts. The replacement of the vehicles reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining modern, dependable resources for law enforcement.
“This investment demonstrates our dedication to public safety and ensures our officers have the tools they need to continue protecting the people of Huron,” stated Police Chief Terry Graham.
