Water Hydrant Flushing
Beginning on Tuesday, September 8th, the City of Huron will begin the routine flushing of the fire hydrants.
Fire hydrant flushing is performed annually to improve conditions of the pipes and to ensure the fire hydrants are working properly. The flushing process moves water through the watermains at a high velocity to loosen any deposits within the system. Customers may experience reduced pressure and temporary discoloration during this process.
The City is set up into 5 zones for the flushing process. This process often takes several weeks to complete. Each zone takes approximately 7-10 days, providing there are no other issues (ie: a watermain break) happening at the same time.
Zone 1 – Huron Water Filtration Plant west along the north side of Cleveland Road thru the Rye Beach neighborhood.
Zone 2 – Huron Water Filtration Plant west to Rye Beach on the southern side of Cleveland Road to the northside of the US 6 bypass
Zone 3 – Huron Water Filtration Plant east to the Huron River, through the Old Plat neighborhood and south into the Oklahoma neighborhood to Bogart Road then west to Rye Beach Road.
Zone 4 – Both east and west side of Main Street south of Bogart Road to Route 2.
Zone 5 – East of the Huron River along the lakeshore and south to the City limits.
The City of Huron takes its responsibility as the owner/operator of the water system very seriously, including the responsibility to conduct routine maintenance on the water distribution system.
Regular updates will be provided to notify customers of which zone and neighborhood staff will be working in.
